My Contribution
Our team comprised students joining their first game jam, so I was the main programmer. The teams were randomized for this jam.
- Gameplay - Toggleable Lights, Interact System
- AI - Patrol Behavior to move between randomized light switches in the house.
- UI - Scene, Menu, Settings, Tutorial
- Tutorial - Introduction to teach the player what the goal of the game is.
Reflection
This was a pretty good experience since the teams were assigned randomly by the organizers. I had a few team members starting their game dev journey, and it was nice to give them a few ideas from art to programming to game design. I tried to give them a few tips and tricks they could implement during their projects, one of them being source control. We had a pretty good idea that was unique but fell short in the voting to another team that had a similar idea. Overall, I made a few connections and was happy with what we achieved.
Features that were implemented
Interact System
- Abstract interface for interactable, and each interactable has its own concrete implementation.
- Player raycast to check if within range of interactable.
AI
- Simple State Machine with waypoints at each light, and executing the interact method.
